The light of all artificial lighting devices decreases over time. It is generally agreed that the lifespan of an LED product is fixed when this product still emits 70% or 80% of its initial flux.

The lifespan of an LED is the time after which a certain percentage (B) of the LED emits a luminous flux lower than a certain percentage (L) of the initial flux.

How to read a data sheet?

Luminous flux at 50,000 hours L70B50: means that after 50,000 hours of operation, 50% of the LED will maintain their flux at more than 70% of the original flux.

Luminous flux at 35,000 hours L80B10: means that after 35,000 hours of operation, 10% of the LED have a flux lower than 80% of the original flux.

Initial illuminance studies must take into account source aging and flux decline over time.

Some wavelengths of light emitted by the sun or by artificial lighting products can be dangerous for the eyes or skin. UVs emitted by the sun are known to cause burns and even skin cancer.

As these wavelengths are not visible to the human eye, there is a standard (IEC 62471) to determine harmful wavelengths (mainly UV below 400Nm and IR above 780Nm).

For lighting devices, the standard provides for a risk class (Class Risk or RG) in 4 points:

RISK GROUP 0 (RG0) = no danger

RISK GROUP 1 (RG1) = no danger for normal use of the product

RISK GROUP 2 (RG2) = no danger if aversion response or thermal discomfort

RISK GROUP 3 (RG3) = DANGER, even for short exposure

All Deltrian products have a Class Risk 0 or 1 certificate

Contrary to popular belief, LED lights can produce almost as many color temperatures as traditional non-LED lighting.

Generally, manufacturers offer several standard color temperatures expressed in degrees Kelvin, but for commercial convenience, they have given a name (which may vary depending on the manufacturer) to each color temperature.

Example: 3000K° = warm white / 4000K° = daylight or natural white / 5000K° = pure white / 6000K° = cool white.

It is good to know that the luminous efficiency of an LED is different for each color temperature, so the higher the LED increases in Kelvin degrees (meaning the more the LED moves towards cool whites), the higher the efficiency.

LED lighting allows for enormous energy savings (and therefore actively contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions) that can vary depending on the lighting they replace without losing any light.

For example, a 500W halogen bulb can be replaced with a 50W LED device (10 times less consumption).

A 58W fluorescent tube (which actually consumes 73W with its ballast) will be replaced by a 22W LED (3 times less consumption).

A 400W sodium bulb (used to light our roads and which consumes 480W with its ballast) will be replaced by a 180W LED (2.5 times less consumption).

But that’s not all: since the lifespan of an LED is 3 to 6 times longer than traditional lighting (up to 15 times if compared to halogen lamps), very significant maintenance savings are realized.

There are a lot of LED products on the market and not all offer the same quality. So how do you choose good quality when all LEDs look alike?

By using heat dissipating materials (aluminum and tin) because heat is the main reason for the death of the chipled.

By using high-performance transformers (drivers) that are well protected and generate little heat and provide increased protection to your installation.

By using the most efficient chipleds on the market (efficiency > 200 Lumen/Watt) that can withstand heat.

By controlling the production of all LED components and electronic circuits internally with a minimum of 7 quality checks on the manufacturing lines. This allows complete control at all stages of production of the product.

It should be noted that the production of 1 kWh of electricity generates the release of 0.29 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Practical case: Knowing that a parking lot is lit by +/- 500 tubes, you have the possibility to go from a consumption of +/- 294,000 kWh/parking/year to a consumption of +/- 100,375 kWh/parking/year.

This means a reduction of 193,625 kWh/parking/year.

Therefore, 56150 kg (193,625 x 0.29) less CO2 in the atmosphere.

As a representative example, this is the annual pollution generated by 17 cars traveling +/- 25,000 km each!
