Every two years, the European Parking Association rewards the quality of public parking structures and services by awarding the best projects with a “European Parking Awards (EPA)”.

The Confluence car park, with 670 spaces, opened on 30 June 2021 in Namur. As its name suggests, this new car park is located at the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse rivers, on the emblematic site of the Grognon.

Created by the European Parking Association, the objective of these awards is to promote the qualitative improvement of public parking on and off-street.

The car park itself consists of four underground floors of 5,000 square metres each. It extends up to 12 metres below ground level, i.e. 9 metres below the level of the Meuse and Sambre rivers. Working in rock and water was quite complex. The car park was therefore designed as a floating boat anchored in the rock. To compensate for the water pressure, no less than 400 anchors were placed in the rock to guarantee the stability of the structure.
